Last night, was one of the biggest fashion events of the year– The Met Gala. The annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art is run by none other than Anna Wintour, the editor of Vogue, a.k.a the fashion bible. As such, you know everyone shows up to show out. This year’s theme was “Charles James:Beyond Fashion.” Charles James was considered the master of cutting and designed highly structured looks. He also gave us expanding waistbands for the nights we overindulge. Tickets were $25K each, so no need to wonder if they met their fundraising goal. In return, we all got some eye candy to look at. Keep scrolling to see some of the looks from the red carpet.
I love this back shot. When they make a movie about the two of them, I hope they reference this picture for the movie poster. I’m just saying. Beyonce and Jay looked amazing in Givenchy. When Beyonce dropped one of her Lorraine Schwartz rings, Jay sprang into action to recover the jewelry and then pretended to propose again. *Swoon*
Red carpet darling, Lupita Nyongo showed up in a Prada cage-style dress. I know that we’ve all come to love her style, but I’m not sure about this one. I absolutely adore the color on her and the fact that we get to see her shape. Sometimes, fashion is wacky. I think this one is up to debate.
Rihanna bared her belly, back (and nipples) in a Stella McCartney crop top and skirt. I’m not sure if it was a surprise, since you know, she usually gives sneak peeks via instagram. However, Instagram had had enough of her nipples and deactivated her account. No sweat off RiRi’s abs, though because she still rocked it. She even had time to post up with Queen Bey.
Kim Kardashian and new hubby (maybe?) Kanye West stun on the carpet after Kim reportedly had a bit of a malfunction leaving the Lanvin store after being fitted for her custom gown. Glad to see she left the her grandmother’s couch at home this year. Ye walked out there looking Zorro-sharp in a black velvet tux.
Lala and Carmello Anthony go for bold with a striking, figure-hugging purple number and tuxedo with a navy jacket. Is it me, or does he look like a monopoly piece. It’s okay, he looks dashing.
Solange arrived in a custom Phillip Lim 3.1 frock looking like a sexy creamsicle. Sorry, I just love her and this color. I was a bit sad to see the ‘fro missing but the choppy pixie cut works for her.
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen were giving us all of the glitter as she strutted down the carpet with her custom-designed Ralph Lauren gown covered in sparkling Swarovski crystals. That ruffled neckline was nice too. John chose a suit from Ralph Lauren’s Purple Label line.
Other Notable looks include:
ImanGabrielle Union
Zoe Saldana
Nicole Richie
and Rashida Jones
