Tracy Morgan was critically injured in a crash on the New Jersey turnpike early Saturday morning and remains hospitalized after undergoing surgery for his injuries. CNN reports that the wreck occurred around 1 AM and involved a Walmart tractor-trailer truck, in which the driver did not properly observe traffic. He swerved to miss the limo bus that Tracy’s crew was riding in, but ended up hitting the vehicle from behind. The limo overturned on it’s side with Tracy sustaining a broken nose, leg, femur and several broken ribs. Morgan’s comedy writer and friend James “Jimmy Mac” McNair died in the crash. Four other cars were involved, but no one in those vehicles was injured.
The truck driver, 35-year-old Kevin Roper, turned himself in to police and was released on $50,000 bail Saturday night after being charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto in Middlesex County, NJ. Walmart is offering to take full responsibility if it is determined that Roper’s truck was responsible for the accident.
Morgan is expected to remain in the hospital for several weeks. Best wishes, Tracy and get better soon!
