We’ve known for a long time that Mary isn’t down with sharing, but this is just the icing on the cake. Mary J. Blige and her husband/manager Kendu Isaacs have been married for 11 years. Their secret to longevity? Separate same-sex-only friendships.
The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul recently sat down with the U.K.’s Stella Magazine to talk relationships and this is what she had to say:
“All females for me, all guys for him. There’s none of that, ‘Oh, that’s my female friend. Oh, that’s my guy friend.’ No, not in a marriage, I’ve never seen that work.”
Well, given the decades of sad love songs that Mary has given the world, it’s a known fact that she’s experienced her share of heartbreak, so maybe she’s just figured out a way to keep it to a minimum (or at a negative) this time around. You have to do what works for you, right?
What are your thoughts on this? Do you think it’s a good idea to monitor your partner’s friendships? Would you give up opposite-sex-friendships for your relationship?
