The annual Keep A Child Alive ball happened on November 5th. Stars like Alicia Keys, Chris Rock, and Lenny Kravitz came together for an amazing cause. For those of you who may be unaware of what KCA does, KCA is a charity organization aimed at bringing treatment to those who have been affected by HIV. Great, right!
The star-studded night wasn’t just for the Gram. Chris Rock’s selfie went for over $10,000. Vanessa Williams’ daughter, Lion Babe performed, and the crowd loved it! After her incredible performance, Lenny Kravitz and Alicia Keys performed and the crowds’ hands kept clapping.
Normally, the news seems filled with hot-mess confessionals of butt injections or tragic struggles by Black candidates trying desperately to cash in on a Black vote. Yes, K. Michelle and Ben Carson, I’m looking at the both of you today. So when people are making a difference, it’s a great surprise to see on our news feeds.
KCA’s website states “there’s a strength in numbers”. This fact was proven again on Thursday night. The ball raised $3.8 million. The money will go toward helping children in Sub-Saharan Africa who are affected by HIV. Ultimately, KCA wants to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030. They need all the help that they can get. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be a star. You can donate money on their website or try to host an event. Let’s all try to make a difference because whenever a child’s life is lost, our society has failed them.
